The Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University has been named after the great social reformer Thakur Panchanan Barma and is situated in the royal city of the Koch kings, Cooch Behar. The Department of Law Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University has started its journey since the year 2015. Since its inception, the Department has emerged as a pioneer institution of legal education and legal research with an excellent team of faculty members, stressing individual attention to intensive as well as extensive study and thereby carrying further the most important task of educational renaissance in the entire North Bengal Region. The Department seeks to inculcate innovative approaches to legal education and prepare students for leadership roles not only in the legal profession but also in a wide range of social institutions. Currently, the Department imparts 2 years LL.M. Degree course, M.Phil. as well as Ph.D. programme. The Department has also started a certificate course in Human Rights and Duties since 2018 with an objective to spread awareness of Human Rights and duties in the society. The Department has also published its departmental journal entitled “Indian Journal of Law and Governance” which has received wide acclamation from various legal luminaries and the entire legal fraternity. Besides its academic pursuits the Department being an institution of legal education recognises its social responsibility and is involved in various legal awareness campaigns and outreach programmes in and around the North Bengal Region.
