The Journey of the University started on 12th December, 2012 and the Department of history has been started from the beginning of the University with 40 intact capacities. At the initial year, only 30 students have been admitted to the Postgraduate level having no permanent faculty member. The classes have been performed by the guest teachers and visiting Professors and Professor Ananda Gopal Ghosh had been bestowed the responsibility for the co-ordination for the History Department. In 2014 two permanent faculties have joined in the Department of History. Gradually the number of students is being increased day by day. At present, there are 70 intact capacities and four permanent faculties along with two guest faculties in the Department. At the initial stage, there were two special papers have been taught i.e. Economic History of Indian and Colonial and Post Colonial North Bengal. The Medieval Indian History and Ancient Indian History had been introduced as Special papers in 2015 and in 2018 respectively. The Department offers courses that lead to M.A., M.Phil, and Ph. D degrees. The eminent Professors are being invited as visiting faculties from time to time in the Department. In course of time, the Department offered invited lectures and organised a seminar on a national and international level. A new area of research open up our faculty and students have begun to engage in research on Environmental History, History of Economics, History of North Bengal and North East India, Social History especially on subaltern people, Tribal Studies, Comparative religion, History on Castes and religion, Regional History of Medieval and Modern History, History of Archaeology, Socio-cultural History and Contemporary History. The Department continues to create an environment of research in the discipline of history as well emerging the inter-disciplinary research fields. It seems forward to a future of intellectual exchange at home and abroad and to promote the better understanding of the experience of knowledge through the research in History.
